The Forestry Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment announces that today, Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at 15:45, a fire broke out in the Municipality of Agia Varvara in Paphos District.
The fire was brought under full control at 16:20, burning an area of 1.5 hectares of dry grass.
Five persons of the Forestry Department with two fire engines participated in extinguishing the fire. The Forestry Department's operation was assisted by the Fire Service with four people and two fire engines.
The extinguishing effort was also assisted by a fire-fighting aircraft of the Forestry Department.
The causes of the fire are being investigated.
The second fire broke out at 16:12 in the Agrokipia forest. The fire was brought under full control at 16:30, burning a two-acre area of low wild vegetation.
Eight Forestry Department personnel with two fire engines operated to extinguish the fire. The Forestry Department's operation was assisted by the Fire Department with three people and one fire truck.
The causes of the fire are being investigated.
The third fire broke out at 16:20 in an area of the community of Avdelerou. Due to the immediate intervention of forest firefighters, the fire was brought under full control at 16:56 before it spread.
To extinguish the fire, four members of the Forestry Department with one fire truck operated. The Forestry Department's operation was assisted by the Fire Department with two personnel and one fire truck.
The causes of the fire are being investigated.
