The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works announces the completion of the application process for the Motorcycle Protective Equipment Purchase Grant Scheme. A total of 2,629 applications have been submitted for a grant for the purchase of a motorcyclist's body airbag, of which 153 are in the low-power category. The number of applications is considered particularly encouraging, and demonstrates that motorcyclists understand the necessity of using additional equipment for their safety on the road.
Due to a higher than predetermined number of applications, an electronic lottery will be held in the next few days and applicants who are pre-approved will be notified electronically (email) or by text message (sms) or by post. The exact date and time of the draw will be announced shortly.
Applicants who receive preliminary approval will then be given a period of 3 months from the date of pre-approval to submit supporting documentation for the purchase of equipment and payment account details for payment of the grant. Applicants who secure pre-approval but do not make a purchase or submit the necessary information and supporting documents within the specified timeframes will not receive the grant and the right will be given to runners-up.
In a written statement, the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Mr. Yiannis Karousos, expressed satisfaction with the high level of interest shown by motorcyclists. "The Scheme falls within the strategy and policies implemented by the Ministry of Transport in collaboration with the Road Safety Council to improve conditions on the road network to protect all users. Our aim is to provide the tools to ensure maximum protection for motorcyclists, as the most vulnerable group of users on the roads. Improving road behaviour and fostering the right culture on the road network is equally the responsibility of the State, society and each individual citizen." Karousos.
