Battle in hospitals - Increasing number of patients with covid... OCYPY opened a new ward in Limassol - Young people and elderly with severe pneumonia 7 new admissions to Limassol Hospital today

The rapid spread of the Omicron mutation in the community has brought an increase in admissions to state hospitals with OCYPY closely monitoring the situation and opening new wards for covid cases.

Indicative is the situation at Limassol General Hospital where since this morning there have been 7 new admissions of patients with coronavirus, as reported by the Head of the covid Unit, Dr. Andreas Costis

"We have observed in the last few days many heavy cases with elderly patients with multiple problems, but we are also concerned about cases of young people with severe pneumonia," he stresses.

Asked about beds and whether they are enough to cope with the increase in admissions, he notes that today a new ward was opened[/B] and there is room at this stage.

"We are treating a total of 56 patients and there is a dynamic situation, which we are fighting every day medical and paramedical staff. Most of the patients are unvaccinated," he said.

However, according to Harilaou, more than 300 beds have been developed nationwide, so that - as he said, speaking earlier to the Cyprus Times Times - no patient is left at the mercy of God.

Increased flow of covid cases is also observed at Famagusta Hospital with admissions in the last three days exceeding 25.
