Four-day detention of two women for forgery and impersonation case One case was sent to the Legal Service for further instructions

The Paphos District Court issued four-day detention orders against two women aged 24 and 30 for forgery, impersonation and circulation of a forged document to facilitate investigations.

According to Paphos Assistant Police Director Michael Ioannou, yesterday the two women went to Paphos airport for departure to Eindhoven, the Netherlands, presenting French identity cards. During the check carried out by members of the Paphos airport passport control centre, there were reasonable suspicions that they were forged documents as large differences were allegedly found in the security features of the documents.

The Pafos CID was informed about the case and the two suspects interviewed at the offices of the Pafos Crime Investigation Department, stated their true identity and that both are applicants for political asylum. Arrest warrants were issued against them, they were arrested yesterday at noon and placed under four days' detention.

In addition, yesterday another girl[/B] was presented for departure for the flight to France[/B] who presented a Swiss identity card during passport control. When her travel documents were checked, there were reasonable suspicions that it was a forged document as large differences were found at the security checkpoints. The girl, who was found to be a minor, was then questioned. According to what she reported during her interrogation, she travelled by plane from Congo to Turkey and then to the occupied territories.

On 14 January she crossed into the free territories, stating that she bought the passport for the sum of $50 from an unknown man in her country. The minor was handled, Ioannou said, and in accordance with the recent amendment to the juvenile law, she was charged in writing and her stay was arranged by Social Welfare Services. The case was sent to Legal Services for further instructions.
