Tragic was the death of a 39-year-old worker from South Africa who was working on a ship, under the flag of the Bahamas, which was anchored in Limassol.

According to the police yesterday afternoon, the unfortunate worker, while performing work on the ship using flammable material, at some point under as yet unknown circumstances, suffered severe burns.

The 39-year-old was taken by boat, together with the ship's doctor, to the port of Limassol and then by ambulance to the city's General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Information indicates that other persons were working near the worker who were using emery for welding and this was probably the cause of the tragic work accident.

Police investigations are continuing.
