A woman in Limassol fell victim to a text message scam.

According to information, the woman in question reported yesterday to the Limassol CID that she received a message on her mobile phone asking her to visit a specific link on the internet, claiming to be from the Bank of Cyprus.

The woman, after being convinced that it was a check on some "unusual activity", as stated, followed the link where she was asked to enter her details, which she did.

Subsequently, a check carried out on her account, via 1bank, revealed that various transactions totalling EUR 27,219 had taken place without her consent.

This was followed by her complaint to the police as she realised that she "fell" victim to fraud.

Investigations by Limassol CID continue.
