Schools are celebrating this year's Chicken Thursday, but with masks, distances and great caution.

As stated in a circular from the Ministry of Education to school principals, there are guidelines from the Ministry of Health regarding the organization of events by school principals and PTAs for Ash Wednesday.

"Please be advised that, based on guidelines received by the Ministry of Health from the Ministry of Health regarding the organization of events by school managements and PTAs on Ash Wednesday, and based on the new measures implemented in schools, it is hereby approved to exceptionally hold Chickpea Day events, subject to Regulation 16 of the Order of the Minister of Health dated 27 January 2022, concerning the operation of schools in relation to Safe Passes with a person responsible for checking and identifying the said certificates" as stated in the relevant circular.

  1. If the school unit decides to hold an event, it must be held outdoors, the classroom group (bubble), hand antisepsis and mask use must be maintained and the prescribed distances must be observed, in accordance with the Health Protocols.
  2. In the event that school units, in consultation with the relevant Parents' Association, decide that the event will include the preparation and/or consumption of food, the guidelines of the Ministry of Health attached should be followed.
  3. If games are to be played, they should be played by each department separately, children from different departments should not mix, and the prescribed distances should be observed.
