Will Putin declare martial law in Russia? Responds to rumors of war in Ukraine
With the Russian invasion of Ukraine now in its tenth day and Vladimir Putin's forces conducting a "broad offensive" after the... After the non-existent ceasefire in Mariupol to remove civilians, rumours - mainly coming from the Ukrainian media - wanted the Russian president to impose martial law in his country.
Taking a stand today during a meeting with flight attendants, Vladimir Putin denied these scenarios for now, but put some asterisks.
The Russian president said that measures would be taken only in "cases of external aggression, in defined areas of military activity. But we are not in such a situation and I hope we won't be," he said, according to the BBC.
At the same time, he claimed that there are other special emergencies that can be imposed in the event of a "large-scale external threat" - but that he does not intend to impose those either.
