Those arrested for the inferno in which many elderly people died The evidence has seen the light of day
The revelations about what was happening behind the closed doors of the nursing home in Chania cause dismay, while today, the seven arrested in the case are expected to go through the door of the investigator to apologize for the serious charges against them.
The seven apologize in parts before the investigator for their actions, while early this morning, around 7, the gate of the courthouse in Chania, passed the two owners of the structure. Then, and during the day will follow the apologies of the remaining five. After the completion of the process will be the final decision on their remand.
Recalled that for the case of the hellish structure have been arrested the 67-year-old owner, 43-year-old daughter and co-manager, a 50-year-old general practitioner in charge of the unit, a 70-year-old psychiatrist, two nurses 44 and 47 years old and a 42-year-old nurse. At the same time, the owner of the nursing home spoke to the show, "Light at the Tunnel" and MEGA, who also made a statement that will be discussed saying: "I'm going to apologize for why the Grim Reaper took them."
It is recalled that the seven arrested are jointly accused of forming and joining a criminal organization and for homicides committed intentionally, with possible malice aforethought and by omission, serially and in an attempt, for a total of thirty deaths of elderly people from 2009 to 2021 and eight attempts.
What the lawyer who brought the case to light says
The first to "drag" the dance of revelations is lawyer Maria Papadaki, who took legal action and revealed the strange deaths, as her father was one of the victims of the modern "crematorium".
"The souls do not return, the death rates speak for themselves. The path of justice is opening. There is a degree of satisfaction that the state seems to operate at the suppression stage because at the prevention stage, it failed miserably. the facility remained open, resulting in it being re-engaged by the authorities twice, the second time for a felonious act. This is the most shocking case I have handled so far and I really need to have faith in the Greek State. I expect justice to be done. The relatives of the deceased had lost faith. I hope this is the beginning of some changes that deserve to come in a favored state," he said.
How the case started
The first complaints were made in September 2020 by lawyer Maria Papadakis, with a father incarcerated. In earlier statements, she said she picked up her father in a deplorable state and filed a criminal complaint.
Papadakis took him to the hospital and then to her home and since then her father had a "passive course until his death, 1.5 months later."
The first "suspicious" death
From September 2020 to May 2021, several complaints and testimonies from both relatives of residents and former employees began to arrive.
The most shocking was the case of the death of a nursing home resident who was labeled "suspicious." While the cause of death for this particular resident was listed as "cardiac arrest" however findings were found on her skull from a blow and there were also testimonies that this woman had fallen hitting her head.
An exhumation was immediately ordered and procedures were initiated for a new forensic examination as to the exact cause of her death.
Authorities have put 68 cases of elderly people who died in a nursing home with the cause of death being cardiac arrest under the microscope.
Illegal prescriptions amounting to 3 million euros
In the case file, the action of the alleged criminal organization is determined over a period of 12 years, while the illegal pecuniary benefit is estimated by the preliminary investigation authority at millions of euros.
In fact, it is reported that from the investigation of the data kept concerning the social security numbers of the elderly people staying in the structure, illegal prescriptions of drugs amounting to about 3,000,000 euros were found!
