The professor of the A' Laboratory of Pharmacology of the Aristotle University says that the substances often referred to as "rape pill" can even cause amnesia

The professor of the A' Laboratory of Pharmacology of the Aristotle University spoke about the chemicals called "rape pill", Antonis Goulas.

Speaking to GRTimes, the AUTh professor said that these substances are a major issue for authorities in foreign countries, such as England, for example.

In essence, the professor said that "it is not one substance, but two - three, maybe even more, which could be considered as a "rape pill." The first and most widespread is fluoronitrozepam which is used as a sedative-hypnotic-anxiolytic. This substance is in circulation, but to obtain it one needs a special prescription, and in the past it has also been used as a "rape pill" in foreign cases.

But according to Mr. Goulas, this is not the only substance. "There is, of course, g-hydroxybutyric acid, a substance that as such is not therapeutic and is obtained illegally. Either through the internet or through circuits."

The side effects for the "rape pill"

As side effects - according to the Aristotle University professor - it causes what the victim reported. "That is a suppression of the central nervous system, a blunting of resistances and in some cases it can even cause an increase in erotic mood. Either way it makes the person more vulnerable and unable to resist attacks. But that's not the most worrying thing," he clarifies.

And he adds that the most dangerous side effect this substance can cause is retrograde amnesia. "That is, the person to whom it has been administered may wake up and really remember nothing."

Finally, the professor notes that this may be the first time the authorities are confronted with such a case, but abroad the problem is very big. "Since 2000, incidents of rape combined with drugging have been on the rise abroad. In England, for example, it is a major issue and is really a very big problem."
