The airport near the border receives 17 flights a day with planes carrying weapons from the West.000 anti-tank missiles

The commander of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Mark Miley, visited last week an unidentified airfield near the Ukrainian border that has become a weapons shipping hub to bolster Ukrainian defenses against Russian troops who have invaded the country, according to the UK's Daily Mail.

During his visit to the airport, Miley met with troops and staff and reviewed the mission's activity.

The location of the airport remains a top secret to protect the weapons mission, including missiles to arm Ukraine.

The US and other NATO member countries have so far sent 17,000 anti-tank missiles and 2,000 Stinger anti-aircraft missiles to Ukraine, a senior US official told CNN.

For White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki, sending Soviet-style aircraft, such as MiG-29 fighter jets, to Ukraine raises "challenges," saying there are logistical problems with the move.

At the same time, U.S. European Command (EUCOM) is using its network of links with allies and partners to coordinate for the shipment of materiel to Ukraine, according to another U.S. defense official.

The bulk of the $350 million US aid and security package has already been delivered to Ukraine, according to the official, just a week after it was officially approved by the White House.

About $240 million of the package has arrived in Ukraine and the rest will arrive within days perhaps weeks, "but no more," the official said Friday.

Once the Western weapons were received, the Ukrainians used them to slow and stop Russian attacks in various parts of the country. "I think all of us have been tremendously impressed by how effectively the Ukrainian armed forces have used the equipment we have provided them," the official said.

The weapons being sent, he said, are equipment that the Ukrainians have already been trained on.
