Gradually receding weather patterns, says the Director of the Meteorological Department The scene for today What to expect in the coming days

Gradually receding weather patterns, the Director of the Meteorology Department, Kleanthis Nicolaides, told the Cyprus News Agency, adding that the yellow warning is in effect until early afternoon, at 4 o'clock.

"It is in any case not expected to be reissued. Tonight will be a cold night, roughly similar to the cold snap. Around 3 degrees inland, around 5 to 6, 7 degrees on the coast and -5 degrees in the higher mountains. Phenomena will continue tomorrow Wednesday with localized showers, isolated thunderstorms and snowfall at an elevation of 600 meters and above, with the temperature being noticeably below normal. Around 8 degrees inland and coastal areas, and 0 degrees in the higher elevations," he added.

As Mr Nicolaides said, both tonight and tomorrow there will be areas with frost.

"So, special attention is needed for those who will be using the mountainous roads in particular. Tonight frost will also form in semi-mountainous areas and in the morning hours it is possible to have frost in the interior," he noted.

The important thing, Mr Nicolaides continued, is that the phenomena are on the wane, "although until Thursday we are likely to have a few isolated showers".

"It is noteworthy to mention that the snow depth as we speak in the Troodos area, in Troodos Square to be exact, is at 64 centimetres, while it was around 50 centimetres last year. So, you understand, the fresh snow is already quite satisfactory. The rains occurred during the night and during the day. As we speak it is raining in several areas of Cyprus and a few more rains are expected during the rest of the day and tonight and tomorrow," he added.

Asked when these weather conditions are expected to subside, Mr. Nicolaides said that it looks like the remaining days, that is Thursday will have a substantial decline in the phenomena.

"Some clouds are not excluded to give isolated rain. Friday there is again a possibility and Saturday a possibility. These are small contingencies. They are remnants of the system that won't have a substantial problem on the ground. The temperature will rise slightly but remain below climatic averages," he concluded.
