"It is important to reach a conclusion on the basis of the Minsk Agreements", the Turkish president said.No one will benefit from a military conflict, he added

A telephone conversation with Vladimir Putin on the issue of eastern Ukraine was held by Tayyip Erdogan early Wednesday afternoon.

According to what the Turkish presidency's communication directorate reported, during the two leaders' meeting, where the Russia-Ukraine issue was discussed, Erdogan stressed that he always attaches great importance to the close dialogue he has established with the Russian president on regional issues and is determined to maintain this situation.

Stressing that he does not recognize steps that are against Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity and that this is a "principled stand for Turkey," Erdogan noted that "it is important to reach a conclusion based on the Minsk Agreements."

Noting that the problem would become more complicated with a military conflict, which would benefit no one, Erdogan said that with this in mind, he attached great importance to continuing diplomatic contacts and talks and that Turkey was ready to do its part to reduce tensions and maintain peace.

Expressing his call to settle this issue through dialogue, Erdogan stressed that it is beneficial to implement diplomacy.

Erdogan reiterated that he expects Putin to visit Turkey as soon as possible, as agreed during his visit to Sochi last September.
