"We will establish, in cooperation with Romania, a humanitarian aid hub for Ukraine", said the Commission President
"We will establish with you, in cooperation with Romania, a humanitarian aid hub and I am grateful to you for that. It is something extraordinary because it helps us to direct the aid we receive from all the countries of Europe, here in Romania, to this particular border crossing," Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said from Bucharest.
"We will allocate at least 500 million euros from the EU budget for humanitarian aid," she said."
She also announced that aid systems are being delivered to Moldova. "They need supplies, they need medical assistance and you here are at the forefront of providing that assistance."
The Commission President also referred to the "very tough sanctions" with which the EU is responding to the Russian leadership. As she said: "our aim is to cut Russia off completely from its neighbours so that it cannot go to war again."
