Police officers in Los Angeles, Calif, southern US) were able to extricate the trapped pilot of a single-engine Cessna yesterday Sunday, who had made an emergency landing on railroad tracks seconds before the small aircraft was hit by a passing train, with debris flying in all directions.

Dramatic videos shot by a passer-by and captured by police body cameras show their frantic efforts to get the man out of the plane, which made an emergency landing shortly after taking off from the Pakoima area, according to local media reports. The officers and the pilot were a very short distance from the tracks when the passing train slammed into Chesna at speed.

"The plane made a failed takeoff and was forced to make an emergency landing, ending up on the rails at a busy intersection," explained Luis Jimenez, a music composer, 21, who shot one video. "A few seconds before the train hit the plane, police officers rescued the pilot" before "a piece of debris almost hit me."

The pilot, who received medical attention for abrasions and bruises, is in stable condition, according to local media. No injuries to anyone on board the train were reported.

The big city's general police department praised the "heroism" and "swift action" of its men who "saved the life" of the pilot.
