Unpleasant news from Mariupol early Saturday afternoon, as confirmed reports say two Greeks were killed[/B] and six others wounded by aerial bombardment in the village of Sartana, about ten kilometers outside the city.


In its statement the Foreign Ministry said: "Greece expresses its dismay and unequivocally condemns the bombing of civilians by a Russian aircraft on the outskirts of the village of Sartana earlier today, which resulted in the death of two expatriates and the injury of six others, including a child.

On the instructions of Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias, Secretary General Themistocles Demiris made a strong protest by telephone to the Russian Ambassador in Athens and summoned him to the Foreign Ministry tomorrow.

It is recalled that the Foreign Minister had urgently raised with his Russian counterpart, during their recent meeting, the issue of the need to protect the Greek Diaspora.

On the occasion of the death of the two expatriates, Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias[/B] said in a post on Twitter that "we express our sorrow for the death of two expatriates, as well as the injury of six others, including a child on the outskirts of the village of Sartana in Ukraine, as well as our disgust at the bombing of civilians by a Russian aircraft."

The news was echoed by Ukraine's Interior Minister Anton Gerasenko, who stressed that a child was among the injured
