The ceremony was performed at Windsor Castle by Prince Charles Hamilton is the fourth Formula 1 driver to be honoured with this title
Lewis Hamilton may have failed to win this year's Formula 1 championship as the title went to Max Verstappen but he was knighted by Prince Charles of Wales.
The ceremony took place on Wednesday afternoon at Windsor Castle, where the seven-time Formula 1 world champion was joined by his mother.
Members of the palace greeted the 36-year-old British Formula 1 pilot with great warmth, to bestow upon him this supreme honour bestowed by the palace on citizens whose actions make the British people proud. Sir Lewis Hamilton was knighted by Prince Charles and not by Queen Elizabeth, as she was absent.
Hamilton is the fourth Formula 1 driver to be honoured with this title, preceded by Jack Brambam in 1979, followed in subsequent years by Sterling Moss in 2000 and Jackie Stewart in 2001. He was accompanied at the ceremony by his mother, Carmen Larbalestier.
Sir Lewis Hamilton has been knighted by Prince Charles at Windsor Castle for his services to motorsport, just days after missing out on a record eighth title.

Hamilton: "Congratulations to Max and Red Bull"
Recall that Lewis Hamilton said after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix that he was absolutely delighted with Mercedes and of course did not fail to congratulate Max Verstappen and Red Bull.
"First of all, congratulations to Verstappen and Red Bull. I'm so happy for my team Mercedes, we really gave everything. I've felt incredible in the car over the last few months. We'll see what happens next year," he said.
