Oral reprimand to MP Andreas Themistocleous by the Ethics Committee for the incident with Efi Xanthou

The Ethics Committee of the Parliament decided to impose the penalty of oral reprimand to Limassol MP Andreas Themistocleous, for an incident that occurred last September between him and the Parliamentary Co-worker of the Ecologists' Movement - Citizens' Co-operation Efis Xanthou.

The incident occurred during the meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Education and Culture on 8 September 2021.

According to the decision read out on Thursday by MP Zacharias Koulias, who chaired the plenary session of the Parliament, the Committee unanimously concluded that there was unethical conduct by Andreas Themistocleous and decided by majority vote to impose on the MP the sanction of a verbal reprimand provided for in the Code of Conduct of the Parliament.

As Mr Koulias said before the House, MP Andreas Themistocleous told him that he was not notified in time that this decision would be recognized and while he wanted to be present in the Plenary, he was absent for strictly serious family reasons.
