The National Vaccination Committee in Greece provides detailed instructions

As the Omicron variant "sweeps" around the world, many people are faced with the possibility of postponing their appointment for vaccination due to possible Covid-19 infection.

If someone tests positive for coronavirus, it is clear that they cannot get the vaccine or booster dose immediately. But when can it be done?

The National Immunization Committee provides detailed instructions:

I am an adult with COVID and have had to postpone my booster dose appointment. When can I do it?

With the emergence of "Omicron," the National Immunization Committee reviewed all international and domestic data, and took an extraordinary review of the recommendations for booster vaccination for coronavirus, concluding that the third booster dose should be given to all citizens 18 and older, three months after completing their two-dose vaccination.

In particular, in case of previous Covid-19 disease, vaccination is recommended 3 months after diagnosis. It is worth noting that for unvaccinated individuals who have had Covid disease, there is a recommendation for one dose of vaccine six months after disease. The natural immunity is complemented by that of the vaccine and is called hybrid, also protecting against the Omicron mutation.

What about children who get sick?

In people under 18 years of age, there is no recommendation for a third dose except for adolescents and children who are immunosuppressed due to medication or illness.

At the same time, children who are ill and have planned to be vaccinated should be aware of the following:

  • Children and adolescents who are ill or sick should have a dose of vaccine after three months.
  • If a dose has been given before children and adolescents become ill, no additional dose is needed.
  • It is worth noting that, according to the CDC, people are most infectious 1-2 days before they develop symptoms and 2-3 days after. Therefore, the clear instruction is to follow the health rules.
