"He very much appreciates the generosity of the governments of countries neighbouring Ukraine."
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is "shocked" by the racism suffered by people who have been forced to flee to escape the war in Ukraine at the border, his spokesman said yesterday.
"We have seen some reports of, basically, overt racism," his spokesman, Stefan Dzuzarik, said. Mr. Guterres "is shocked by the numerous reports of racism, discrimination and harassment suffered by people of different races as they tried to flee Ukraine or neighbouring countries where they sought asylum," he continued.
Guterres "very much appreciates the generosity of the governments of countries neighbouring Ukraine," but at the same time urges them to stamp out all manifestations of racism and xenophobia, according to Mr. Dzuzarik.
