Kiev will not respond to provocations, says Ukrainian President

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said today that his country will not respond to provocations in the eastern Ukrainian region, Donbass, and will strive to establish peace through diplomacy, the Cyprus News Agency reported.

Zelensky traveled to Germany to attend the Munich Security Conference as his country prepares for a possible military attack by Russia, which has amassed more than 100.000 troops near the Ukrainian border.

Russia denies planning an attack

"We do not respond to provocations and strive to consolidate peace exclusively through diplomacy," the President wrote on his Instagram account.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister's other line "Prepared for everything"

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba wanted to hold another line, and when asked if he agreed with US President Joe Biden's assessment that Russian President Vladimir Putin has decided to invade, he replied that Ukraine is prepared for all scenarios.

"We are preparing for every possible scenario," Kuleba said from the Munich Security Conference.

As Kuleba said after his meeting with his US counterpart Anthony Blinken at the conference, Ukraine and the US will make every diplomatic effort to protect Ukraine.

"I am grateful to Secretary Blinken for the additional data and assessments he shared with us on Russia's aggressive plans. Ukraine today is even better prepared for any further scenario. Ukrainian and American diplomacy will make every effort to protect Ukraine. The US stands resolutely on Ukraine's side," Kuleba wrote on Twitter.

Kuleba is due to visit Brussels and the US next week to coordinate with Western partners on efforts to deter a Russian attack, Ukraine's Interfax news agency reported earlier today.

He will meet with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and will also address the UN General Assembly on February 22-23, the agency noted, citing the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry.

Ukraine accused Russia of wanting to escalate tensions by not participating in the planned trilateral peace talks on eastern Ukraine today, adding that it was concerned about the deteriorating security situation in the war zone.

"We believe that the Russian Federation's abstention indicates its conscious intention to continue to escalate the situation," a statement from the Ukrainian delegation at the Munich Security Conference said.

Western powers have warned that Russia is probably preparing to carry out a large-scale attack on Ukraine having amassed more than 100 troops on its border.000 troops, which Moscow denies.
