The Larnaca Criminal Court found two young men guilty of raping a minor in Ayia Napa

The Permanent Criminal Court of Larnaca - Famagusta ruled yesterday, Wednesday, April 6, guilty of two young men from Nicosia who were accused of raping a minor in Ayia Napa in the summer of 2020.

The hearing of the case had been held behind closed doors to protect the identity of the complainant, who was 17 years old at the time in question.

The 17-year-old girl was the main witness for the prosecution and her testimony was deemed credible by the Court of Cassation, resulting in the Court's decision to convict the two young men aged 20 years old who were known to the minor at the time in question.

It is recalled that according to the complaint made to the Police, the defendants had met with the minor in a nightclub in Ayia Napa, where they had been having fun.

However, while the young girl was under the influence of alcoholic beverages, the two 20-year-olds took her to a hotel room, where they had intercourse with her against her will.

The Court of Cassation set Wednesday, April 13 as the date on which their defence lawyers will plead for mitigation purposes, and until then ordered that the two defendants remain in custody.
