Two opinion polls in the occupied territories today show the CEC in the lead in the upcoming "parliamentary elections" to be held on January 23, one of which even shows the party of the Turkish right forming a "government" with self-reliance.

According to GMP, the poll conducted by the company of the Kipris Media Group, COMAR, published today by the Kipris newspaper, was conducted in December using the method of face-to-face interviews with the participation of 1,683 people and compared to the one conducted in November, it shows an increase in the percentage of abstention and those who say they will cast a "mixed vote" (SA: horizontal vote), while the percentage of undecided voters shows a decrease.

The abstention rate, which was 17.6% in November, rose to 24.7% in December, while undecideds fell to 8.6% in December from 15.8% in November.

Noting that 8 parties and 403 candidates are taking part in the "election", the newspaper writes that in response to the question "which party would you vote for if there were a general election next weekend?" survey participants answered:

National Unity Party (UBP) 23.7%, Republican Turkish Party (CTP) 15.23.9%, Renaissance Party (YDP) 4.5%, Democratic Party (DP): 2.3%, Community Democracy Party (TDP) 1.7%, People's Party (HP) 1.9%, Independent Way (IW) 0.6%, Community Liberation Party-New Forces (TKP-YG) 0.3%.

24.7% said they would not go to the polls, 11.4% said they would vote horizontally, 8.6% said they had not decided and 4.4% said they had decided but did not want to answer.

With the breakdown of undecideds, the results are: National Unity Party (UBP) 40.5%, Republican Turkish Party (CTP) 27.12%, Renaissance Party (YDP) 9.31%, Democratic Party (DP): 7.02%, Community Democracy Party (TDP) 5.10%, People's Party (HP) 6.35%, Independent Way (IW) 2.6%, Community Liberation Party-New Forces (TKP-YG) 2.99%.

According to the results, in all "provinces", the TKG is ranked first party and the PTK second. In Nicosia the third place is shared by CL and KA, in Famagusta and Trikomo only KA is in third place, while in Kyrenia, Morphou and Lefka the PP is ranked third.

To the question "in your opinion to what extent does the faithful implementation of the protocols signed with Turkey contribute to a better economic situation?" survey participants answered very much with 40%, a little 23.5%, not at all 22.5% and I have no opinion 14%.

To the question "In your opinion, to what extent does the transition from the TL to the euro contribute to a better economic situation?" survey participants answered: No opinion 6.1%, Not at all 38.0%, A little 11.5%, A lot 44.4%.

To the question "In your opinion, to what extent does moving in the direction of the policies set by Turkey in all areas contribute to a better economic situation?" the survey participants answered as follows: No opinion 7.3%, Not at all 32.4%, A little 23.0%, A lot 37.3%

To the question "In your opinion, to what extent does the establishment of a one-party government contribute to a better economic situation?" survey participants responded as follows: I have no opinion 7.5%, Not at all 34.5%, A little 14.4%, A lot 43.6%

To the question "In your opinion, to what extent does the provision of facilitation of transit from the south of Cyprus to the north contribute to a better economic situation?" the survey participants answered as follows: I have no opinion 3.1%, Not at all 15.6%, A little 17.6%, A lot 63.6%

Moreover, a poll conducted by Detai in December shows that the CEC can form an independent "government."

The poll was conducted on 17, 18 and 19 December with telephone interviews with 724 people. The margin of error is 3.85% and the confidence interval is 95%. The abstention rate appears to be decreasing to 18.76% in December compared to similar surveys conducted by the newspaper in October (20.84%) and November (25.21%). Moreover, the percentage of those who say they will cast a mixed vote has increased, rising from 7.41% in October to 10% in November and 12.62% in December.

The opposition PTK seems to maintain its 2018 "election" figures, while the People's Party shows a big drop, from third party to fifth place, but only 1.2 points away from the third PP and 0.25 points away from the fourth Community Democracy Party. According to the newspaper, many of those who voted for the CL in 2018 appear to be returning to their old party.

The Settler Renaissance Party appears to be re-entering the "parliament", broadly maintaining the strength it secured in 2018, while the remaining two parties in the contest, namely the Community Liberation Party-New Forces and the Independent Way do not seem to secure the necessary 5% to enter the "parliament", in which six parties will be represented.

Meanwhile, the member of the New Cyprus Party's committee for boycotting the "elections", Murat Kanatli, spoke of an obvious link between Turkey's ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) and the National Unity Party (NUP).

Mr. Kanatli questioned how much support the Development and Economic Cooperation Office (DEI) of the Turkish "embassy" in the occupied territories has provided within the last one year to the "municipalities" visited by Nationalist Action Party MP Ahmet Erbas when he visited the occupied territories several times last year to support Ersin Tatar's candidacy in the 2020 "presidential" elections.

He also wonders whether it is not interference in the "elections" to support certain "municipalities" at a time when aid has been reduced to a minimum or whether the chairman of the CEC, Faiz Suzhouoglu, decided on his own to nominate as the "leftist" candidate the president of the AKP's women's organisation in the occupied territories, who had failed to secure the nomination of the candidate in the CEC's internal party processes.

He also wonders whether it is normal for Turkey's "ambassador" Ali Murat Basteri to declare at a foundation stone-laying ceremony on 24 November 2021 that "no more talks will be held on the basis of federation" and whether this does not constitute a deletion of pro-federation parties and interference in the "elections".

Noting that the clearest response to Batcheri is to boycott the "elections" saying that "this is our country, we will not vote at your suggestion."
