Two-hour absences from their classes will take place today for middle school students during 3rd and 4th period, in protest of quarterly exams.

The PESM stresses that all students have experienced the tragic results of the quarterly exams, while calling it an anti-educational institution whose results can be seen through their grades.

"The victimization of students cannot be tolerated by us," stresses the students' movement, calling again for the abolition of the institution.

The PESM also clarifies that "the 2-hour walkout on Friday is the first reaction and that the difficult struggle they are fighting will be intensified in the next period. "We will not stop until the complete abolition of the four-month exams," the student movement clarifies.

Middle School Parents Warn with Dynamic Measures

At the same time, the Confederation of Middle School Parents warns with dynamic measures if the second quarter exams for all classes are not suspended and a meaningful dialogue is not initiated to decide on radical changes to the existing legislation.

Specifically, on Wednesday, February 23rd, the Board of Directors of the Middle School Parents' Confederation met on Wednesday, February 23rd, with the main topic of evaluating the implementation of the four-quarter grades institution and after reviewing all parameters, unanimously came to the following decisions:

-Immediate holding of a Press Conference for a full presentation of the Confederation's positions

-Since the Ministry of Education and Science decided to conduct examinations using the procedures of the Pancyprian Access Examinations, it had to proceed with the corresponding procedure of reducing the results. As soon as this correction procedure is not followed, the Ministry of Education should proceed to the complete annulment of the written examination results.

-Suspend the implementation of the second quarter examinations for all classes, since there are still unresolved issues such as the learning frameworks, the many examinations, the issue of shortages of substitutes, the pandemic outbreak and the absence of modern distance education.

Initiate a dialogue for radical and substantial changes to the existing legislation and if this is not possible, the Confederation will have no choice but to call for the complete abolition of the institution.

-Evaluation of the implementation of the institution by an independent external commission.

-Scientific documentation through research on the psycho-emotional effects of the pandemic on our children and their impact on the learning process.

-If the Ministry of Public Health continues to ignore the Confederation's positions, then we will take strong action
