More than 1 million Greek Cypriots will cross into the occupied territories in 2021, writes Halkin Sesi on the front page today, attributing this to the euro-TL exchange rate and the high value lost by the Turkish currency.
According to the publication, in 2021, 1,023,961 E/C crossed into the occupied territories out of a total of 2,440,912 crossings through the roadblocks to the occupied territories. Transits from the occupied to the free areas, it added, for 2021 amounted to 2,497,195. As reported, in November there were 167,748 crossings to the occupied territories and in December these increased to 182,064. Most pass through the St. Dometius barrier.
In 2021, the publication continues, 915,156 "nationals" of the pseudo-state have crossed from the occupied territories to the free areas.
In the occupied territories, 503,842 foreign nationals also passed through the barricades during 2021.
