Turkey as guarantor will respond to the strengthening of the Republic of Cyprus' missile defence, Tatar says.Turkey will respond to the strengthening of the Republic of Cyprus' missile defence
Turkey as a guarantor power of Cyprus will certainly respond to the strengthening of the Republic of Cyprus' missile defence, Ersin Tatar said, adding that he rejects in advance the MoUs of the E/C side and especially the proposal for the return of Varosha in exchange for the opening of the illegal airport in occupied Tymbou under the auspices of the UN.
In remarks made during his visit to the governor of Caesarea, the T/C leader said he maintained that "tdvk is a sovereign state in the north".
"We all already know how important the Republic of Turkey is for us as a guarantor and the presence of the Turkish army in Cyprus as a deterrent force, always maintaining relations with the Republic of Turkey in the best possible way," Tatar said.
He went on to say that, "I heard that the Y/C are buying new missiles to strengthen their missile defence systems," saying that "this is a big mistake."
He argued that this "will further increase tension in the eastern Mediterranean."
He added that "they should not forget that the Republic of Turkey is the guarantor of Cyprus."
He added that "they should not forget that the Republic of Turkey is the guarantor of Cyprus. Therefore, as a guarantor, it will certainly have answers to them."
He also said that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and National Defense Minister Hulusi Akar "on every occasion send the necessary messages, saying that we will never allow the violation of the rights of either Turkey or the TC people in the eastern Mediterranean."
In a speech to 1974 veterans in Caesarea later, Tatar said that "if you had not come in 1974, it is very likely that Cyprus would be a Greek island today." Cyprus, he added, "would have passed into the hands of the Greeks. Greece's dreams would have been realized. He argued that "they tried to declare a second Greece in the eastern Mediterranean. Bulent Edzevit and Nejmetin Erbakan did not remain silent to the call of Cyprus."
No to a proposal for the return of Varosha
In another speech at a conference in Caesarea entitled "The role of tdvk in the Blue Homeland", the T/C leader claimed that some proposals will be made by the E/C regarding confidence-building measures in Cyprus these days and said that if we look at the proposal, he said if Varosha is returned, the illegal airport in Tymbou can be opened with direct flights under the auspices of the United Nations. We cannot accept this. The opening of Varosha is a very important pillar of our new policy, the two-state policy. With the opening of Varosha under our sovereignty, which had been closed for 47 years, life began here, he said.
Varosha, he continued, provided excellent services to both the economy and tourism of tdvk. So far, 400 thousand people have visited Varosha under pandemic conditions. Hopefully there will be much more traffic after the pandemic."
He also said that it is an extremely valuable product of politics, which has national value, will add a lot to tdvk and is a very important step for us in our struggle in the eastern Mediterranean. That is how I see it.
Finally, Mr. Tatar said, what do you think, would we lose Varosha and open our own airport for direct flights under the auspices of the United Nations? This is being done to jeopardize our sovereignty in the breakaway republic. Such a development would weaken the tdvk regime.I would never think that Turkey would look favorably on such a thing."
