The stories of people who have died unjustly in the war raging in Ukraine after the Russian invasion are shocking.

A Ukrainian woman was allegedly killed by a Russian tank in an ambush when she went out to get medicine for her sick mother.[/B] Valeria Maksetska, 31, was shot along with her mother Irina and their driver by a passing Russian tank in a village outside Kiev.

She decided to leave Kiev when her mother's medicine ran out

Her friends said goodbye to the young woman and called her "brave", saying she stayed in Ukraine to help the locals after Russia invaded. She made the fateful decision to leave the country when her mother's medication ran out and the pair were driving towards Ukraine's western border when they were ambushed by Russian troops.

Maksetska reportedly pulled over to the side of the road for the Russians to pass when one opened fire on their car, killing the 31-year-old, her mother and their driver.

She was shot by a Russian tank Her mother and their driver were also shot dead

USAID Administrator Samantha Power confirmed that all three died in the attack. As she said:"It is with great sadness that I share the news of the death of Valeria Maksetska, a proud Ukrainian, beloved USAID implementing partner. She survived the bombing of Donetsk, moved to Kiev and began working with USAID. Valeria, a doctor in training, could have left Kiev when the invasion began, but she stayed to help others."[/I].

Και συνέχισε: "Only when her mother ran out of her mother's medicine did she walk away." As Valeria, Irina and their driver Jaroslav waited in a car for a Russian escort to pass, a tank fired on them - killing all three. Valeria's death causes great pain to USAID, Chemonics and everyone who knew her. As Valeria wrote when the Kiev offensive began, she was "angry at the horrific violence, but so proud to be Ukrainian and live in a place where values matter."

Jamie Butcher, CEO of Chemonics wrote: "This is Valeria Maksetska, a member of my staff. She was killed in a village west of Kiev while trying to get medicine for her sick mother."
