Εντυπωσιακή αύξηση 195,9% (ή 1,21 εκ. τουρίστες) παρουσίασαν οι αφίξεις τουριστών την περίοδο Ιανουαρίου – Νοεμβρίου του 2021, σε σύγκριση με την αντίστοιχη περσινή περίοδο, κατά την οποία είχαν τεθεί σε εφαρμογή αυστηρά περιοριστικά μέτρα κατά του κορωνοϊού, ενώ μείωση κατά 52,4% (ή 2,02 εκ. τουρίστες) παρουσιάζουν οι αφίξεις σε σχέση με την αντίστοιχη περίοδο του 2019.
Συγκεκριμένα, σύμφωνα με την Στατιστική Υπηρεσία, για την περίοδο Ιανουαρίου – Νοεμβρίου 2021, οι αφίξεις τουριστών ανήλθαν σε 1.840.003 compared to 621,927 in the corresponding period of 2020, an increase of 195.9% and a decrease of 52.4% compared to the period January - November 2019 (3,866,447 arrivals).
In addition, tourist arrivals in November of 2021 amounted to 148.973 compared to just 8,952 recorded in November 2020 (up 152%) and 169,392 arrivals recorded in November 2019.
According to Statistics Canada, arrivals from the United Kingdom were the main source of tourism for November 2021, accounting for 22.7% (33,829) of total arrivals, arrivals from Germany 10.0% (14,945), arrivals from Russia 9.6% (14,236), arrivals from Poland 8.8% (13.105), arrivals from Greece 8.5% (12,629) and arrivals from Israel 7.7% (11,474).
The purpose of travel in November 2021 was for 75.8% of tourists a holiday, for 13.3% a visit to friends or relatives and for 10.9% business.
Correspondingly, according to the Statistical Service, for November 2020, 39.4% visited Cyprus for holidays, 25.5% for visiting friends or relatives and 35.1% for business.
