Blue Monday, the most depressing day of the year The "equation" that calculates melancholy
The most depressing day of the year is Monday 17 January, which is called Blue Monday.
This is the third Monday in January and the reason it is considered depressing, according to experts, involves a combination of factors related to both the passing of the holidays and the goals of the new year.
In the last two years, moreover, due to the coronavirus pandemic, it has also been linked to stress.
It was first reported in 2004 by psychologist Dr. Cliff Arnall, who, according to Newseweek, created a formula for January blues when he was asked by Sky Travel to promote the travel company's winter offers.
The equation that "calculates" melancholy
A number of factors estimated to contribute to low mood make up the following equation:
[W + (D - D)] X TQ / M x Na
[/P][BR][BR]Where:
W = weather
D = debt
d = monthly salary
T = time since Christmas
Q = time since failed New Year's resolutions
M = low motivation levels
Na = the feeling of need to act.
It should be noted, however, that scientists call the term Blue Monday arbitrary, saying that it cannot stand up scientifically.
However, according to ERT, there exists a condition known as "Seasonal Affective Disorder," namely a form of depression that can emerge at various times within the year.
