The perpetrators were arrested with the child's remains in a community forest in Burundi They were going to use them for witchcraft rituals
The body of a young albino, aged 4, who was kidnapped on Saturday from Bujumbura, Burundi's largest city, was found dismembered today in the northeastern part of the country, Agence France-Presse reported, citing the association Albinos sans frontières and an administrative source.
"A young albino boy, named Abdul and aged 4, was kidnapped on Saturday afternoon by a group of three killers riding in a taxi while he was playing with other children in the district of Kinama," on the outskirts of Bujumbura, the spokesman for the association Albinos sans frontières (ASF), Sadrac Nahumuremi, told AFP.
His kidnappers then headed to the province of Kankuzo, located 230 kilometres from Bujumbura, where they killed and "dismembered" the body of the young boy, Nahumuremi and an administrative official in the area, who did not want to be named, described.
"Abdul was murdered, then his torturers cut off his arms and legs before removing the bones and sharing them. Then, they went to dump his remains in a forest in Kigaba community on Sunday," the official explained.
"A child guarding a flock saw them and alerted the authorities, which allowed the arrest of two of the three thugs who each carried the child's bones in a backpack," he said.
In many parts of sub-Saharan Africa, albinos are hunted and murdered and their parts and organs are removed to be used for witchcraft rituals[/B] that are supposed to bring wealth and luck.
About 20 albinos have been killed in Burundi since 2008 and their bones sold in Tanzania, where this kind of ritual is common, the administrative source said.
