The Minister of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth Mr. Mr. Prodromos Prodromou chaired today a meeting with the President and members of the leadership of the Pancyprian Confederation of Associations of Parents and Guardians of Public and Community Kindergartens. The meeting was also attended by the Director General Mr. Neophytos Papadopoulos and the Director of Primary Education Mr. Marios Stylianides from the Ministry's side.
During the meeting, the Minister informed organised parents that on the basis of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan we are proceeding with the extension of free compulsory pre-school education from the age of 4 years, with appropriate planning and programming being done at the Ministry.
In addition, with regard to the health protection measures that are being implemented in schools, the Minister of Education pointed out that we will continue to follow the recommendations of the specialists with the aim of always continuing the operation of schools with a physical presence.
The representatives of organised parents, for their part, stated that the operation of schools with physical presence has a positive impact on the psychology of children and therefore the continuation of the attendance of pupils in schools is also their aspiration. At the same time, they noted that they agree with the reform to extend free compulsory pre-school education from the age of 4 years.
Referring to the Confederation's proposal to provide parents with a pre-public number of self-diagnosis tests (self-test),[/B] so that they can proactively monitor their children in relation to Covid-19 disease, the Minister said that it is a thought that is also being considered by the Ministry and that it will be discussed with the Ministry of Health in the near future.
Finally, it was agreed that the angry pre-primary parents will be in constant dialogue with the Ministry on issues concerning pre-school education.
