Paphos Police are conducting intensive investigations into the case of the arson of a record store in the heart of tourist Kato Paphos, on 650 Agios Antonios Street this morning.
According to Pafos Assistant Police Director Michael Ioannou, police received information about a fire in a record store in Kato Paphos, specifically in the tourist area of Ayios Antonios.
Police went to the place and cordoned off the scene after noticing that there was a fire outside a discotheque in that area. The fire department extinguished the fire. According to Mr. Ioannou and further investigation it appears that the fire damaged pipes on the exterior of the building and it extended inside an office adjacent to the sub-store.
The fire, he continued, caused damage to the sub-store, which has not yet been calculated. He added that the Police, are evaluating and utilizing closed circuit television in the area with a view to investigating and solving the case. Ioannou also said persons are being questioned, statements have been taken and the investigative team is working to find such evidence so that an arrest warrant can be issued for the alleged perpetrator.
From the preliminary examinations from the closed circuit study, Mr Ioannou said that it appears to be a person who contained the pipes with flammable material and then set them on fire.
Investigations are continuing by the Paphos CID.
