Two people were arrested in a case of illegal trapping and killing of wild birds in Zigi
Two people have been arrested in connection with a case of illegal trapping and killing of wild birds in Zygi. They were charged in writing and released and are expected to appear before the Larnaca District Court.
According to police, at 2am on Friday 24 December a woman complained to Zygios Police Station that a man in the Zygios area was trying to trap wild birds.
Members of the police attended the scene where they spotted two activists watching a person who was trying[/b] to trap wild birds with nets.
Police examinations revealed that the man was a 41-year-old man, and subsequently another 51-year-old man arrived at the scene who allegedly physically assaulted the officer with the intention of intimidating him, pulled him by the sweater, by the arm, insulted him and left the scene with the 41-year-old man who appeared to know each other.
On Saturday, December 25, the two individuals were identified by police who proceeded to issue arrest warrants and search their homes and outbuildings.
The two individuals were arrested and after being charged in writing they were released and are expected to appear before the Larnaca District Court.
The offences under investigation against them according to the police are conspiracy after the commission of an offence, assault on a police officer, possession and unlawful use by means of capturing and killing wild birds, assault by threat and obstruction of justice.
