According to the Assistant Police Director of Paphos Michael Ioannou, the 28-year-old appeared on Sunday under draconian security measures before the Paphos District Court. The Court accepted the Police's request for the suspect's eight-day detention
[/P]Mr. Ioannou said that a total of 31 burglaries
and thefts committed in Paphos are being investigated against the 28-year-old, 23 of which have been investigated and were committed before his escape, while the remaining 8 were committed after his escape until yesterday when he was arrested.
He also pointed out that investigating authorities possess information that the 28-year-old is involved in many more cases. However, he noted that during the suspect's eight-day detention it will become clear how many burglaries he is involved in[/B] after his escape. He said Mr Ioannou was put in charge of the investigating team to investigate the case.
The 28-year-old was located and arrested yesterday by members of the police in Paphos. The 28-year-old, along with a 33-year-old, escaped on February 5 from a police detention centre in Paphos, where they were in legal custody after being arrested in connection with investigated cases of burglary and theft recently committed in Paphos.
Following the escape of the two, police had released their details and photographs in order to gather information that could help locate them.
The 33-year-old is still wanted,[/B] with police continuing to search for and arrest him. Ioannou noted, however, that some information is reaching the police and all seriousness and responsibility is being evaluated
