The child was rushed to the Hippocrates Hospital of Thessaloniki and doctors proceeded to remove the foreign bodies through a flexible bronchoscope with a wire basket.

The announcement of the hospital administration:

"Removal of a foreign body from the left sternal bronchus

A 16-month-old girl, while playing, found on the floor a piece of gum rubber which was sucked in, resulting in hyperventilation in her left lung and discomfort in her breathing.

The removal of foreign bodies from the bronchi at the Hippocrates Hospital of Thessaloniki is the result of the close cooperation of the paediatric pulmonologists, otorhinolaryngologists, paediatric anaesthesiologists, nursing and auxiliary staff of the hospital. In this particular case, it was successfully performed by the doctors of the Pediatric Pulmonology Unit of the 3rd Pediatric Clinic of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki through a flexible bronchoscope with a wire basket. This method has been successfully applied for many years in our Hospital.

The Hospital Administration congratulates all those who participated in the happy outcome of our little patient's adventure."
