Without the usual procession, but with the pomp and ceremony required by tradition, Agios Theophanes was celebrated in the city of Paphos, observing all the measures under the sanitary protocol.

Paphos celebrated the great feast of the Baptism of Christ after the Council of Ministers issued a decree allowing the faithful to attend church, as was the case at Christmas.

The Divine Liturgy and the Great Consecration of Epiphany were celebrated at the Holy Church of Saints Anargyroi, presided over by Metropolitan George of Paphos and in the presence of the Authorities of the City and District of Paphos.

In his speech, Metropolitan George of Paphos said that Christ today comes to be established by God the Father as King. Therefore, honoring today, he said, the baptism of Christ, we are called to recognize Christ as our King as King of all nature and to adapt our lives to the commandments of the Gospel. It is, he said, the only way in which we can show that we accept his eternal kingdom and that we also look forward to that kingdom which we will have daily on earth and which will be a kingdom for all eternity.

After the end of the Divine Liturgy, the Holy Clergy and the representatives of the Authorities went to the Harbour of Kato Paphos, where the Bishop of Paphos performed the ceremony of the Purification of the Waters, with the immersion of the Holy Cross in the sea. The Metropolitan of Pafos also wished that in the New Year our country will find its feet and drive out the Turkish invader and be liberated and each of us will proceed with our peaceful plans.

The decision not to hold the traditional procession to the harbour was taken in the context of observing the measures provided for in the Orders of the Ministry of Health to limit the spread of the coronavirus.
