The attack against civilians is a war crime, NATO Secretary General stressed - He claimed that many civilians have been killed or injured by Russian forces

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg cited reliable reports of attacks by Russian troops against Ukrainian civilians, who discussed security in Europe with Latvian President Egils Lević. In any case, he made it clear that the war in Ukraine must not spread.

Calling it a "brutal Russian invasion of Ukraine," Stoltenberg said many civilians have been killed or injured by Russian forces. "There are credible reports that civilians are under attack while trying to evacuate. Attacking civilians is a war crime and is completely unacceptable."

According to the NATO Secretary General, the sanctions imposed on Russia are sufficient and severe, but he noted that the situation could spiral out of control.

The Alliance has significantly increased its presence in the east, noting that "we have a responsibility to ensure that the conflict does not escalate and spread outside of Ukraine," adding that NATO wants to protect every part of the allied countries.
