Two persons were arrested in the parking lot of Nicosia General Hospital, as reported in a previous CyprusTimes article, [/URL] last night were caught in possession of a pistol and a number of bullets.
Specifically, members of the Nicosia OPC, together with members of the MMAD, following a tip-off, conducted a coordinated operation on Saturday night in the area of the Nicosia General Hospital in Strovolos, where shortly before 7.30 in the evening, in the parking area of the General Hospital, spotted and stopped a certain car for control,[/B] in which two persons were riding.
After the two occupants were checked, they were found to be a 42-year-old man, who was driving the vehicle, and a 44-year-old man.
A search of the car of the two suspects ensued, in which police members located a handgun, and a magazine containing five rounds of ammunition, leading police members to proceed with the arrest of the 42-year-old and the 44-year-old.
They were taken into custody for police examination purposes, while the pistol, magazine and bullets recovered were seized as evidence and are expected to undergo further examination.
[/P]Nicosia CID undertook further investigation into the case of illegal possession and transportation of a firearm and explosives.
