For July 6, the Five-Member Court of Appeals for Criminal Cases adjourned, following requests for suspension of execution of sentence submitted by a total of four defendants in the Golden Dawn trial.

They are Io. Hare, Elpidophoros Kalaritis, An. Pantazi and G. Stampelos, who request that their detention be lifted because - as they claim - they or their families have suffered irreparable harm.

The prosecutor has already recommended the rejection of all four requests.

The session was adjourned shortly before 15:00 due to a phone call about a bomb in the building.

Rabbit's request

The accused, elaborating on his request in court, said that: "Since 2019 I am an elected MEP. When the original judgment came out I was in Belgium for six months. I never tried to leave and avoid justice. I came back. I did not create any problems. I am not suspected of committing any new offences. If a sitting MEP is not entitled to a suspension, then no citizen is. I was present at the police station three times a month and then I was present in Brussels. (...) Apart from not actually having my seat - because theoretically I have it - I have suffered a great financial loss."

He claimed that, along with him, his associates in Athens and Brussels are facing big problems, who, he said, "the only felony they committed is that they are my associates."

Continuing, the accused pleaded not guilty, saying that he has not committed any offence."

The accused pleaded not guilty, saying that he has not committed any offence. "I went on a hunger strike in Domokou prison so that the Court of Appeal can proceed and take place.

Because if this Court of Appeal is interrupted, postponed or if it takes a long time, I will have served the sentence completely unjustly and it will be as if it does not need to take place." Still, he said: "If your court finds that I am innocent, if it finds that I have a mitigating factor most of the sentence has been served."

He concluded by addressing the court: "Give me the opportunity to perform my duties as an MEP."

Michaloliakos' side submitted a request for a postponement

Meanwhile, a request for a postponement with the start of the trial was submitted by the side of Nikos Michaloliakos.

The former party leader did not attend the trial. Defense lawyer D. Papadellis said that Nikos Michaloliakos was absent for health reasons, as he had been hospitalized with COVID-19 for two months in intensive care and is now in a rehabilitation center.

"Theoretically he was elicited by the court while he was in intensive care and had loss of consciousness, visual and auditory hallucinations. He doesn't even have the decision, he doesn't know why he is on trial!" said the defence lawyer.
