The Group of Initiative for the Salvation and Reorganization of the EDEK said in a statement on Wednesday that Marinos Sizopoulos proclaimed himself President and ignored the overwhelming majority of the EDEK members and the judiciary's condemnatory decisions against him, is selectively calling pre-conference meetings to lead to a statutory congress, in an attempt to adapt the statute to his "obsession" to turn him into a "monarch".
"He does not seem to be bothered at all by the state of the EPP, which has made it a party of alchemy, corruption and fraud, a laughing stock of society. He satisfies his ego and moves on leaving behind scorched earth," the group added.
It also expressed the view that "if he is allowed to continue, very soon nothing will remain standing," adding that "all members and friends of the EPP must take a stand now. We all have an obligation, towards democracy, towards the ideology and history of the EDEK, to act to stop this downward slide."
