[Cyprus Times] The Russians bombed a school and a community centre in Kharkiv. 53 dead in Chernihiv

The death toll from the Russian bombardment of the city of Chernihiv in northern Ukraine reached 53.

It was a nightmare night for many Ukrainian cities due to heavy attacks by Russian forces.

Merefa[/B], a town of 21,500 inhabitants in the Kharkiv region was hit by an airstrike at 3.30am. As a result of the attack, a school in the area was heavily damaged, while a community center was also destroyed.

Meanwhile, the death toll from Russian bombing in the northern Ukrainian city of Chernihiv[/B] has reached 53, the governor of the province announced today. "We suffered heavy losses, 53 civilians were killed yesterday," Vyacheslav Klaus noted."

As local police chief Volodymyr Ninzelsky stated yesterday, Wednesday, in a Facebook post, "Today Russian troops launched a sneak attack with artillery shells on a residential district of Chernihiv. The shells hit a multi-storey building and shrapnel fell outside the shop where civilians were waiting."

The US Embassy in Kiev, for its part, had also announced yesterday that "Russian forces shot and killed 10 people who were waiting in line for bread in Chernihiv".

Meanwhile, Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister Irina Vereshchuk expressed hope that nine "humanitarian corridors" would be opened today to evacuate civilians from several Ukrainian cities, including Mariupol, which has been besieged for days by the Russian army.
