The protection of wetlands is an essential concern of the Cyprus Ports Authority, says ALC President What he said at an event organised by the Cyprus Environment Protection Foundation and the Akrotiri Environmental Centre
The message that the protection of wetlands is an essential concern of the Cyprus Ports Authority, sent its President, Antonis Stylianou, at an event organised on the occasion of World Wetlands Day.
According to a statement by the ALC, Mr. Stylianou attended an event organised by the Cyprus Foundation for Environmental Protection and the Akrotiri Environmental Centre on Wednesday at the upgraded bird sanctuary of Lake Makria, in Zakaki.
The Cyprus Ports Authority, it is added, has already contributed to the procedures to protect the wetland of Lake Makria by providing boulders to protect the accesses.
As Antonis Stylianou stated at the event, "the protection of our country's wetlands is an essential concern for all of us and the Cyprus Ports Authority, as the immediate first neighbour of the Lake Makria wetland, shows particular interest in the ongoing efforts to protect it, both by the competent state agencies and the unprecedented actions of environmental organisations, the work of which is welcomed and is of major importance".
Finally, it is noted that the Cyprus Ports Authority has taken the initiative to convene a meeting with stakeholders, in order to contribute in every possible way to the protection of the wetland.
