The President of the Republic Mr. Nicos Anastasiades received today, at the Presidential Palace, the Speaker of the House of Commons of the United Kingdom, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, who is on an official visit to Cyprus, at the invitation of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mrs Anita Demetriou.
The meeting highlighted the excellent and long-standing ties between Cyprus and the United Kingdom at all levels, including the parliamentary level.
Bilateral relations in areas such as tourism, education and Diaspora issues were discussed, among others.
President Anastasiades briefed Sir Lindsay on the latest developments in the Cyprus problem and the ongoing Turkish provocations both on the territory of the Republic of Cyprus and at sea, with particular reference to the violations of UN Security Council resolutions in relation to the enclosed city of Famagusta.
The President of the Republic also referred to his proposals for the Confidence Building Measures that will help create a climate for the start of a constructive dialogue in good faith by all sides for the resolution of the Cyprus problem.
