Copy of the resolution unanimously adopted by the Parliament on 24 February unanimously condemning Russia's invasion of Ukraine, was delivered today by the Speaker of the House, Anita Demetriou to the Ambassador of Ukraine to Cyprus, Ruslan Nimchynsky.
According to a statement, during their meeting the Speaker of the House expressed the full solidarity and support of the Cypriot people to the hard-pressed people of Ukraine. Cyprus, she said, experiencing the painful consequences of the Turkish invasion and continued occupation of part of its territory, remains firmly committed to international law, to respect for the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of all states and to fundamental European principles and values.
The Ambassador of Ukraine expressed sincere thanks for Cyprus' clear, principled position and for the strong support his country receives from EU Member States and more broadly. Mr Nimchynsky briefed the Speaker on the situation as it is unfolding, and in particular on the unfolding humanitarian crisis in his country.
Demetriou expressed the readiness of the Parliament to provide all possible assistance to meet the needs and provide relief to the people of Ukraine.
