The Speaker of the House of Commons of the United Kingdom visited the British Bases
The Speaker of the House of Commons, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, referred to the close relationship between the United Kingdom and the Republic of Cyprus during a visit to the British Bases of Akrotiri and Episkopi.
According to a statement from the BB, the Speaker of the UK House of Commons made the visits yesterday, Wednesday, as part of his three-day visit to the island and praised the work carried out by the men and women serving in Cyprus. The British Bases in Cyprus are part of "global Britain" and an outpost for peacekeeping, he said.
"The Sovereign Bases matter to me because this is global Britain at its best, our outpost, it's how we keep peace in the world," he said.
He did not express satisfaction with the soldiers' living conditions, saying that if he were serving now, he would want to do so in Cyprus.
Among other things, he pointed out the close relations and close cooperation between the United Kingdom and the Republic of Cyprus, as well as between the two peoples.
It is recalled that this is the first official visit of a Speaker of the House of Commons to Cyprus, following an invitation by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Anita Demetriou.
