The President of the Republic signed laws on sexual education and extension of the suspension of divestment

The President of the Republic today signed the legislation passed in Parliament on the issue of sexual education.

The Presidency of the Republic, without disregarding the correctness of the opinion of the Attorney General, nevertheless took into account:

The contractual obligations of the Republic of Cyprus as arising from the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Council of Europe Convention on the Protection of Children against Sexual Abuse, which expressly provide for the obligation of the State to provide information to children in the context of primary and secondary education on the risks of sexual abuse and exploitation.

That the said legislation meets the above contractual obligations of the Republic, without interfering in any way with the competence of the Minister of Education to plan, determine the curriculum and/or timetable.

The President of the Republic also proceeded to sign the legislation on the extension of the period of suspension of divestments.
