The bill on the evaluation of disability will be submitted to the plenary session of the Parliament next Thursday, following the postponement of its debate in the plenary session on 9 December 2021.
The purpose of the bill, which was discussed today in the Parliamentary Committee on Labour, is to amend the Minimum Guaranteed Income Act and the Social Benefits Act in general, in order to correct issues that arose after the House of Representatives passed a bill that introduced new regulations in relation to the assessment and certification of disability, taking into account the rights of persons with disabilities and the public interest.
In statements after the session, EDEK MP Andreas Apostolou expressed satisfaction that he was informed today "that the Ministry of Labour has accepted our mediation proposal on the bill on the assessment of disability, which will be submitted to the plenary on Thursday.
He said the issue had been discussed for months between the Ministry, Parliament and the Disability Movement and added that "while the bill was due to go to the plenary before Christmas without a mutually acceptable solution, we asked for the issue to be postponed to allow time for dialogue".
"Today our mediation proposal was accepted by the Minister," he added.
Finally, Apostolou thanked "those who contributed to finding the golden mean" and added that "it is through dialogue and logic of consensus that solutions in politics are given and this is how I will continue to be a politician."
