The Parliamentary Committee on Education
Members of the Parliamentary Committee on Education and Culture were briefed on the work carried out by the CUT and toured the buildings of the University, assuring that solutions to issues related to their own responsibilities will be promoted.
The visit of the committee members began with a presentation by the Rector, Professor Panagiotis Zafiris, on the history and finances of the university, its Faculties and Academic Departments, as well as its strategic development plan until 2024, with particular emphasis on building development, to meet the needs of TEPAK itself and its students.
In a statement, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Education, Pavlos Mylonas, said that "the two issues that were mentioned to us mainly, the legislative framework and the building facilities, we have to run them, we can help and it is our obligation".
He expressed the hope that very soon, in cooperation with the Rector's Authorities and the Council of the TEPAK, "we will proceed with the important and shocking changes, such as the privately owned dormitories in Berengaria, where many other things will be done."
The issue of high rents in Limassol, he continued, is of particular concern to the House Education Committee and some proposals have already been tabled, both by the University and by members of the Committee, either to subsidise rents or create conditions for access to the University for students living in more remote areas where rents are cheaper.
Thanking the Parliamentary Committee on Education for its interest, Rector Zafiris said that it was an opportunity to present the actions of the TEFC that aim to make it grow and develop.
"Our main problems are the legislative framework, which we believe must run quickly, there are several issues that we have promoted, but due to the procedures they are delayed and we definitely want to see the issues of building development of the University, how they can be launched faster," he added.
After the presentation, the members of the Committee were given a tour of the various buildings of CUEPAK located in the center of Limassol.
