[BR\]74-year-old confessed wife killer discharged from the Mental Health Hospital Referred to the Criminal Court
Discharge from the Mental Health Hospital in Athalassa was given to the 74-year-old confessed wife killer where he was hospitalized, and is expected to be brought before the Court today in order to be referred to the Criminal Court sitting in Paphos, according to the Paphos Police Department's Press Spokesman and head of the Paphos Crime Investigation Department Michael Nicolaou.

Mr. Nicolaou said that the 74-year-old man who confessed to killing his 75-year-old wife at their home in Tremithousa was treated at the Mental Health Hospital in Athalassa on the recommendation of a psychiatrist. He was discharged today and is expected to be brought back to court for a trial in the Court of Cassation, he said.

Referring to the background, Mr. Nikolaou noted that the 74-year-old confessed to committing the murder against his 75-year-old wife by blocking her nose and mouth with his hands, because, as he said, she was ill with leukemia and could not see her suffer. The 74-year-old also allegedly confirmed that he had consumed some pharmaceutical preparations. He was subsequently taken by ambulance to the Accident and Emergency Department of the Paphos General Hospital where he had his stomach washed and was kept for further treatment.
An autopsy at the scene was carried out by forensic pathologist Nicolas Charalambous, who found that the 75-year-old woman had bruises and abrasions on her face and that her death was allegedly due to a criminal act. Furthermore, according to the forensic examination carried out on the body of the 75-year-old woman by the Medical Examiner Nicolas Charalambous, the exact cause of her death is expected to be determined after the results of the histopathological and toxicological examinations.
The examinations on the case continue by the Paphos CID.
