The Municipality of Agios Athanasios protests against the closure of a bank branch - "It is unthinkable that a municipality with 20.000 citizens not to have even a single bank branch."

The Municipality of Agios Athanasios invites its citizens to a protest event next Wednesday, on the occasion of the decision to close the branch of the Hellenic Bank located within its boundaries.

According to a statement, the decision for the protest was taken at an extraordinary meeting of the Municipal Council, following the decision of the bank's Board of Directors to close the branch located at Anoikodomiseos Street and Faust.

"It is unthinkable that a municipality with 20.It is unthinkable that a municipality with 20,000 inhabitants does not even have a bank branch," the statement said, adding that it is "a branch that was built with the contribution of citizens, indigenous people and refugees and was handed over in 2009 in a healthy state with €4.5 million in reserves and without any financial arrears".

This branch, continues the Municipality of Agios Athanasios, serves a large number of residents, but also people from other areas, as well as the majority of elderly refugees from the adjacent settlement and the industrial area of Ag.

The municipal authorities invite the citizens and all organized groups of the area to a protest event, outside the branch, the day after tomorrow, Wednesday, at 12.00 noon.
